Narrators — are you eligible for special APAC sessions?

Director Diagnostics give narrators an opportunity to work with an experienced, expert director, producer, or narrator one on one for 20 minutes to get specific feedback about performance technique. DD’s will be scheduled first thing in the morning at APAC, concurrent with registration and breakfast. They are open to narrators who requests a slot, but they’re limited in number and first come first serve (so, in order of conference registration).

Speed Dating gives narrators who are more advanced in their careers a chance to meet with casting decision makers face to face. There are new eligibility details this year, as well as a new process for applying for a slot. Like Director Diagnostics, the first narrators who registered for APAC will be given priority, and because of time constraints and the number of producers/casting directors who have agreed to participate, there is a limit to the number of narrators who will be chosen.

  • Eligible narrators include award nominees and winners (Audie and Grammy nominees and winners of the Audie, Grammy, Odyssey, Nautilus, Scorby, Earphones, and ListenUp Awards), and/or those narrators with 50 or more commercially produced books (as evidenced by Audible or Downpour) recorded in the last five years. Speed Dating narrator participants must also be APA members.
  • Narrator participants will be all new this year — sorry, no return visits from narrators who participated last year!
  • Narrators should email with a link to their Downpour or Audible listing, substantiating the number of commercially produced titles, or the details of an award nomination or win that gives them eligibility (including award, year, title, and a URL, if available). A Dropbox folder will then be shared, in which the narrator should upload one short narration sample of fiction or non-fiction, 60-90 seconds long. Three judges, including Hilary Rose, May Wuthrich, and Paul Ruben, will then listen to the sample provided and choose which narrators will be given a slot.
  • Submissions may be made between March 31 and April 14th. Final participants will be announced no later than May 12.
