The APA thanks you!
We recently put out a call for you to share your feedback in our membership survey, and your response was overwhelming. The APA staff, the board, and Michele Cobb, APA president, sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about what’s working and what’s not. The responses were lengthy — the board reviewed over 100 pages of detailed survey responses at our meetings January 14 and 15 — but here are a few highlights:
- 81% of members expressed interest in receiving more thorough and useful communication. In order to better share information about APA initiatives, industry news, and events, we’re making big changes to the newsletter and we’ve recently established an APA blog. We hope you’ll give us your feedback, so that we can fine-tune our communications to best serve you.
- 91% of responding members agreed that the APA is fulfilling our mission statement. That’s great! However, many members were unfamiliar with the initiatives that allow us to successfully fulfill our mission. We recognize we need to do better communicating with you and keeping you in the loop. In the future, the blog will be a source of more detailed information and opportunities.
- 67% said that audiobook advocacy should remain the APA’s highest priority. In response to that guidance, the board overwhelmingly voted for a significant increase in PR and advocacy spending in 2014. We’re looking forward to sharing at APAC how this big investment will benefit all members.
We’re glad that the majority of you ranked networking, the annual conference, the Audie Awards, and research and advocacy efforts as being very valuable membership benefits. We’ll continue to focus our time and resources in these areas, but we also have some new ideas about how to make these efforts even more meaningful. We’re looking forward to addressing our collective community and sharing more at APAC, May 28th at the Javits.
Congratulations to Graeme Spicer & Sarianna Gregg, each of whom won $100 AmEx gift cards for filling out the survey!
